DIGIKEY is now a HRWB Podcast sponsor!
We are delighted to have Digikey on board as a sponsor and distributor of our kits.
Founded by a Ham, Digikey is a nearly ideal partnership for us. You will hear more as the year progresses and we help them do more outreach to the ham radio community.

HRWB WILL SPONSOR HOMEBREW HEROS
Home Brew Heroes (HBH), an award program to recognize innovators in Amateur radio,
developed by our friend Frank K4FMH, is now sponsored / Administered by Ham Radio Workbench  - It’s a great fit for our mission!
Hans Summers & George Thomas have been past winners - We are in the selection process for 2021 and will announce the winner by the end of January.

Homebrew Heroes
I would like to nominate Guido ten Dolle, PE1NNZ, the creator of the astounding software behind the uSDX. All of the hardware variants and the unauthorized Chinese clones use his work. It uses pulse width modulation of the PA supply voltage to transmit SSB modes in addition to CW while retaining class E efficiency and uses a direct conversion SDR receiver AND he does this on an Arduino. See the ucx@group.io WIKI for info.
I would also like to nominate Steve Haynal, KF7O, the man behind the Hermes Lite 2. See my web, eham reviews or Pete Juliano's blog for HL2 reactions. Steve just seems to be a great human, as well as a talented gateware and hardware designer.
Both of these hams spawned large, active communities of enthusiastic home brewers.

I have a QCX, QCX mini, QDX, uSDX and Hermes Lite 2. None of these transceivers has a power switch. I'd like to see a Power Pole power distribution strip with some individual switches to avoid constantly plugging/unplugging these rigs into a strip.

I think Mark should name his projects, "Secret Squirrel by Halibut" followed by a project number. This would look something like SSH-01.

What a special group of guys spending time every week to produce this. I look forward to this every two weeks.

I’d love to see a YouTube on how to utilize an IC in a project. I know the basics, I know schematics, but to do something complex, I know it’s sometimes easier to use a chip that already does what you want to do … but I’m not sure how to build a board around that.
Example: my KX3 puts out IQ, but there is not a small portable 192kHz 24bit stereo line in sound card that I can find. I think something like a TLV320AIC3204 will do what I want, but it’s a huge leap for me to go from breadboarding simple circuits to building a usb sound card using this chip.
Please take the above as an example food for thought rather than a request to do that for me. I’m looking more for the thought process on how to get from “I need something to do xyz” to designing a board around an ic that does most of what’s needed.

Has the 2021 Homebrew Heros award been announced yet (commenting in early May 2022)?
